Critically acclaimed BBC drama A Suitable Boy will stream exclusively on Acorn TV in Canada and the U.S. beginning Monday, December 7.
The limited series based on Vikram Seth’s classic novel of the same name, which explores love, politics and religion, was directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding) and aired on the BBC in the UK this past summer and closed the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
Adapted by screenwriter Andrew Davies, A Suitable Boy follows 19-year-old university student Lata (played by Tanya Maniktala) who finds that her life is already mapped out thanks to old traditions and her mother who wants her to find a suitable husband. Lata is torn between romance and responsibility but is inspired by rebellious writers and daring new ideas which inspire her to determine her own future in a newly independent India. Meanwhile, Lata’s relative Maan (Ishaan Khatter) finds himself drawn to glamourous courtesan Saada Bai (played by Bollywood icon Tabu).
