We’ve been absolutely spoiled with TV this summer. From the fourth season of The Bear (Disney+), a second round of guilty pleasures with The Valley (Bravo and Hayu), and some fresh debuts like Overcompensating (Prime Video), Too Much (Netflix), The Waterfront (Netflix), and Adults (Disney+).
Here’s a round-up of what I’ve enjoyed in the last week.
Alicia Silverstone is back with Irish Blood

As a card-carrying member of the Clueless generation, I was already sold on Irish Blood the moment it was an Alicia Silverstone series filmed in Ireland. The deal was sealed when I spoke with executive producer Christina Jennings (at The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada event earlier this year), who teased that Alicia was “fantastic” and that the show is a “fresh take” on murder mysteries.
Silverstone, our erstwhile Cher Horowitz, plays Fiona, a sharp-witted LA divorce attorney who gets pulled into a mysterious family drama when a package from her estranged father (Jason O’Hara) arrives on her doorstep. She’s soon off to Ireland to find answers, and let me tell you, the series is packed with twists. The first half of the pilot was seriously giving Hallmark, but the moment Fiona landed in Dublin, you’ll be quickly hooked.
Irish Blood streams on Acorn TV.
And Just Like That…: The One Where Nothing Happened

And Just Like That… wrapped up with a so-called “two-part” finale last week, and I’m pretty sure HBO was just being cruel. We were left hanging after a 28-minute “Part 1” the week before, only to be served up a finale that resolved… well, basically nothing.
Say what you will about the series – and many have – I think that was the entire point. I don’t think the writers had any clue they were going to end the season when LTW (Nicole Ari Parker) was clearly about to cheat on her husband, and we never actually saw Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Steve (David Eigenberg) meet their grandkid. The whole thing felt half-baked. I wish we could have gotten more of Sarita Choudhury’s Seema, but at least Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Harry (Evan Handler) were in a good place.
Honestly, I’d have ended the series with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) breaking up with Aidan (John Corbett) and meeting the girls for a much-needed drink (a few eps back). I’ll choose to remember it that way.
All three seasons of And Just Like That are streaming on Crave in Canada, along with the entire Sex and the City series and films.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Assembles the Dream Team

Last week’s episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, “The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail,” was something truly special. After an attack on the Farragut, Kirk is put in the captain’s chair, with the Enterprise crew assisting. It was the moment we’ve all been waiting for: our first glimpse of Kirk (Paul Wesley), Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Chapel (Jess Bush) and Scotty (Martin Quinn) all together on screen!
Watching Pike (Anson Mount) give advice to Kirk was a fantastic nod to the original series. And while we’re left dreaming about what a new Star Trek Series could look like once Strange New Worlds wraps its five-year mission, we can at least be thankful we have another two and a half seasons of these glorious moments ahead of us.
You can continue streaming the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on Paramount+.
Wait, there’s more: I’m also watching and covering Big Brother — be sure to check out the exclusive exit interviews here.
