The TV Watercooler

James Van Der Memes, Gossip Girl, Katy Perry and more

— Happy New Year! Hope you all enjoyed the holidays. Although I didn’t really do to much TV-watching in Paris, I did check out to see what their TV situation was like. They had about 10 music video channels in a basic package, which was pretty neat. But the best part? These channels *actually* played music videos. As in the *entire* music video! All throughout the day. What…a concept! Anyway, it’s good to be back and I hope my pre-published Soap Spoilers and Late Night schedules were okay to tie you over.

Gwyneth Paltrow will host Saturday Night Live on January 15th while Cee Lo Green will serve as musical guest. They’ll obviously be singing together. Meanwhile, Jim Carrey hosts this weekend’s SNL with Black Keys performing.

Illeana Douglas will play the present-day version of Carol Rhodes, Lily’s sister on Gossip Girl. Krysten Ritter portrayed the role in the 2009 “Valley Girls” episode. Douglas’ episodes are slated to begin airing in April.

Lou Diamond Phillips will guest star on Chuck this February as a villain of the week.

Grant Show will appear in the fifth season of Big Love as a spiritual marketing guru who helps Margene.

Donal Faison, who played Turk on Scrubs and Murray on Clueless has signed on for a role on a new TV Land pilot which focuses on three divorced men who live in the same apartment building. Kristen Johnston (30 Rock) will play the landlady.

Katy Perry will guest star on an upcoming episode of How I Met Your Mother. She’ll play the “beautiful, naïve” cousin of Jennifer Morrison’s Zoey.

— ABC’s Charlie’s Angels remake will be giving Bosley a makeover. He’ll now be in his late-20s to mid-30s and will have “GQ looks.”

Judd Apatow is developing a new movie that will feature his wife, Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd’s characters, Debbie and Pete, from Knocked Up.

Modern Family and Cougar Town came back on Wednesday, while the third season of Jersey Shore premiered last night. To find out when all your other shows are coming back for midseason, check out Dose.ca’s guide to the premiere dates.

— Feeling the post-holiday blues? James Van Der Beek’s Van Der Memes will get you through it.
