Jonathan Jackson quits General Hospital, Jennie Garth is returning to TV, plus a look at tonight’s Ringer, New Girl and more

Jonathan Jackson has quit General Hospital and will film his final scenes as Lucky Spencer on November 17. Jackson was lured back to the soap in two years ago — while giving the boot to  Greg Vaughan. TV Guide is reporting that Jackson is leaving because the show wasn’t able to lighten his workload or honour his request to reunite Lucky with Liz (Rebecca Herbst). So let’s get this straight…not only did the fans want “L&L2” to reunite, but so did the actors? Huh, no wonder many fans have lost hope in this soap. As for plans for the character, there is no word yet if they’ll recast. Should Vaughan return if ABC asks him? Why not? Although old school fans were happy to have Jackson back, the show never really utilized the full potential of the Spencers by bringing back Laura (Genie Francis) and all Jackson’s Lucky did for the past two years was cry (but did it so well).  While Vaughan will recur on ABC’s G.C.B. this midseason, I’m sure they’ll be able to work something out. Let’s not forget that while head writer Garin Wolf‘s current tenure is facing negative reviews, he did manage to write well for Vaughan’s Lucky during the writer’s strike. Vaughan’s time as Lucky also saw the only successful romantic pairing for the character outside Liz with Sam (Kelly Monaco), dubbed “LuSam.” As for Jackson, let’s just add him to the list of botched General Hospital returns in recent years along with Sarah Brown (Carly/Claudia) and Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo (Brenda) — although he did get the Emmy for Supporting Actor this past year.

Carlos Bernard (24‘s Tony) has landed a recurring role on TNT’s upcoming Dallas reboot. Bernard recently appeared in the Charlie’s Angels pilot.

Mimi Rogers will play Ashton Kutcher‘s mother on Two And A Half Men. Rogers, who was once married to Tom Cruise, played Michelle Williams‘ mother on Dawson’s Creek…and now Katie Holmes is married to Cruise. I know it’s completely irrelevant, but I wanted to put that out there.

— Meanwhile, Jane Seymour will play Mark Paul Gosselaar‘s mother on Franklin & Bash.

Chelsea Handler and hotelier Andre Balazs have split.

Jennie Garth is returning to television, but don’t get so excited, it’s for ABC Family. The half-hour comedy will have Garth play a single mother who adopts a baby from a teen mom.

My picks for tonight:

Juliet (Zoey Deutch) continues to form a bond with Logan Echolls her teacher (Jason Dohring).

On New GIrl (9 p.m. on Fox and Citytv): Cece (Hannah Simone) sleeps over and convinces Jess (Zooey Deschanel) that Nick (Jake M. Johnson) likes her more than a roommate. Meanwhile, Schmidt (Max Greenfield) tries to seal the deal with Cece.

On Parenthood (10 p.m. on NBC and Global): AMber (Mae Whitman) offers Seth (John Corbett) a place to stay at her apartment when he’s released from rehab. Adam (Peter Krause) tries to get intimate with Kristina (Monica Potter) while Crosby (Dax Shepard) struggles with the prospect of a new father figure in Jabbar’s (Tyree Brown) life.

Over in late night: Hugh Jackman is on Strombo; Robert Pattinson is on Letterman; Jason Segel and Kris Jenner are on Leno; Josh Charles is on Fallon; the Decemberists are on Daly; Julie Bowen is on Conan.
