The cult-classic film adaptation starring John Cusack was released in 2000. The television adaption — which premiered in the U.S. on February 14 — gender-swaps the lead with Zoë Kravitz taking on the role of Rob, a record store owner in the rapidly gentrified neighbourhood of Crown Heights, Brooklyn who resists past relationships through music and pop culture.

The series was developed by writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka (Ugly Betty, Hart of Dixie, State of Affairs and Chicago Fire) while Questlove serves as High Fidelity’s executive music supervisor, giving us an eclectic sound throughout the 10-episode first season (complete with a Blondie cameo).

Starring alongside Big Little Lies’ Kravitz are Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Dolemite Is My Name), David H. Homes (Mindhunter) and Jake Lacy (Obvious Child). The OA’s Kingsley Ben-Adir recurs along with former MuchMusic VJ Rainbow Sun Francks.
