Critically-acclaimed and international favourite Normal People will premiere in Canada on May 27 when it becomes available on CBC Gem.
CBC has announced that the BBC and Hulu 12-part series based on Sally Rooney’s best-selling novel will be available on their streaming platform with 2 episodes each week, beginning Wednesday, May 27.
Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, Normal People is adapted for the screen by Rooney alongside Alice Birch and Mark O’Rowe and is directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Room) and Hetti McDonald (Howard’s End).
Normal People recounts the complicated relationship between Marianne (Edgar-Jones) and Connell (Mescal) from the end of their school days in a small-town west of Ireland to their undergraduate years at Trinity College in Dublin.
“It’s a triumph in every way, from acting and direction to script, and if we see a better drama – certainly about adolescence, one which takes it seriously without treating it indulgently – this year, I’d be very surprised. It’s a beautiful, hugely beautiful thing,” says The Guardians’ Lucy Mangan – giving it five stars.
