CBC renewed 23 of its original programs for the upcoming 2020-21 television season including Coroner, Dragons’ Den, The Fifth Estate, Frankie Drake Mysteries, The Great Canadian Baking Show, Heartland, Kim’s Convenience, Marketplace, Murdoch Mysteries, The Nature of Things, Still Standing, Tallboyz, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and Workin’ Moms.

Canada’s public broadcaster has also commissioned six new series for the fall: Enslaved a documentary series led by Samuel L. Jackson and Canadian filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici which charts the history of slavery through underwater archaeology; Orangeville Prep, a factual series that takes an inside look at the competitive high-pressure world of basketball’s most successful preparatory program; The Sounds, a relationship thriller set in Pelorus Sounds, New Zealand, starring Rachelle Lefevre and Matt Whelan; Trickster about an indigenous teen struggling to keep his family above water by holding down an after-school job and selling ecstasy to support his mother – series is based on the best-selling novel Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson and has already been renewed for a second season; the Canadian premiere of the latest interpretation of H.G. WellsWar of the Worlds starring Gabriel Byrne, Elizabeth McGovern and Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Premiering in winter 2021, Lady Dicks will follow two radically different detectives in their early 40s starring Meredith MacNeill and Adrienne C. Moore and Arctic Vets, which will take viewers up close with the remarkable wildlife that inhabits Canada’s frozen north and the team of veterinarians that work tirelessly to keep them safe.
