Big Brother Canada’s fourth season came to an end on Thursday, May 12 with brothers Nick and Philippe Paquette from Ottawa winning over Kelsey Faith. During the press day on Friday, I got a chance to the winners about the experience which brought them closer.

Are you guys splitting the money 50/50? Some have suggested things go differently.
Phil: What are the suggestions? Who’s getting the bigger chunk here? That’s what I want to know!

Who do you think deserves the bigger chunk?
Phil: I think we deserve equal!

Any plans with the money?
Phil: Just put in the bank. Maybe go down south for awhile.
Nick: I’m not looking to waste any of it. I started this game behind the eight ball and it’s good to be ahead now for once in my life. I’m just looking really forward to not stressing over it.

Was there any point where you thought they were going to split you guys up, even though they said they wouldn’t?
Phil: Well, we were a twist coming in… Something could have happened.
Nick: That was a big thing int he house, a lot of people thought we were going to get split and they wanted our heads on the block because of it. “Get them out while they are one instead of wasting two weeks int he future!”
Phil: Yeah.
Nick: Ultimately, our social game is what saved us.
Phil: We just set up solid relationships. It was hard to have a good relationship in the house and then have any information come to you because you’re best friends with this person and that person. That was hard.
Nick: Playing that middle game where both of us are running around and gathering information. It was hard for us to talk to each other because people would look at us and assume we were scheming.
Phil: For the first part of the game, I told Nick that I would do the talking so we wouldn’t have a moment where someone goes “You said this and you said that.”
Nick: For the second half of the game, I woke up and knew exactly what to take from it. I knew people’s intentions and I used that to our advantage.

Phil, was there a moment where you regretted telling Nick to audition?
Phil: Earlier on, I felt that having my brother and I here wasn’t a good thing. We had the strength. But it was also a great weakness. We had to find a way to get past our differences from before the show and then during the show.
Nick: Big Brother dealt us a wild card and we had to play that. My brother and I weren’t that close coming into the house. We had to find a way to work together and get on an equal wavelength without talking to each other about it.
Phil: We’re 13 months apart! We argued so much before. We overcame so much. I’m so proud of us.
Nick: That we made it so far and won. Not only did we win Big Brother Canada, but we won our relationship back.

You guys are so sweet. How did you keep going into the house a secret from each other?
Nick: We didn’t know.
Phil: We weren’t in contact. I was told I was going into the house. Got my key.
Nick: I was somewhere else and went through the same thing. Big Brother worked its magic. You could probably see it in episode one where I walk in and I see these good-looking ladies and then I see this dingus on the couch and freak out.
Phil: And I say “Hey Nick, nice to meet you. I’m Phil.” That would have been hard to keep the lie going until the end of the game.

They ended it right away.
Nick: I’m actually thank for that.

Would it have been hard to keep that secret?
Phil: Yes!

What was your favourite moment?
Nick: Mom coming into the house.
Phil: I agree.

Worst moment?
Phil: Crying in the HOH room. I’m not an emotional person and I balled my eyes out in front of Raul.
Nick: Getting mad at Phil for putting up Nikki and Tim on the block together.
Phil: That was also a low moment.

Most attractive?
Phil: Kelsey!
Nick: Paige.

Funniest?
Phil: Dallas.
Nick: Dallas.

Best cook?
Phil: Tim or Raul.
Nick: Tim.

Messiest?
Nick: Might be this guy, right here… Phil!
Phil: No, not a chance, man!
Nick: Cassandra’s bad.
Phil: Kelsey could be as well.
Nick: Okay, Cassandra’s the worst. She doesn’t pick up after herself.
Phil: Cassandra for sure.

Who else should have won?
Nick: Tim played on heck of a game.
Phil: Tim played an outstanding game.
