David Usher narrates ‘Off World’ and is set to release new album in September

Canadian musician David Usher was in attendance at the gala opening of the 10th Annual ReelWorld Film Festival this past Wednesday in Toronto. I got the chance to catch up with the former Moist frontman before the premiere screening of the film, “Off World” which he narrated.

The film explores the story of Lucky (played by Marc Abaya) who decides to go back to the Philippines for the first time since being adopted at an early age by a Canadian family. Usher became involved with the project thanks to his good friend and the film’s producer, Byron Wong. “He showed me the incredible footage. The director, Mateo [Guez] went into the third largest garbage dump in the world, which is just outside Manila, and shot this incredible story. When I saw the footage, they asked me to be part of it and I really wanted to.”

Usher is set to release his seventh solo album this September. “Don’t know what it’s going to be called yet. It’s mostly an acoustic record and I like it a lot. It’s pretty much done but I’m still messing with it.”

To keep up to date with David Usher, you can follow him on Twitter, check out his official music site and his personal blog, CloudiD where he shares his views on Art, Technology and the Communications Revolution.
