Citytv has announced that it has greenlit Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, a Canada adaptation of the legendary Law & Order franchise.
Production of the 10-episode first season will begin this Fall in Toronto by Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures Inc. in association with Rogers Sports & Media’s Citytv. The series will be distributed by Universal Television, however, there is no word yet if the series will land on Peacock or NBC in the U.S.
Casting details are imminent, and the series will feature Canadian talent both in-front and behind the camera. While the series will take place in the same universe as the other Dick Wolf-produced shows, there is no word yet if there will be any crossovers.
Premiering in Spring 2024, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent is a psychological thriller wrapped in a criminal investigation that follows an elite squad of detectives who investigate high-profile crime and corruption in metro Toronto.
Other foreign adaptions include Law & Order: UK, which ran for 8 seasons from 2009 through 2014 on ITV.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Organized Crime were both renewed for their respective 25th and 4th seasons by NBC in April 2023 and also air on Citytv in Canada, as will the 23rd season of the original, Law & Order, which premiered in 1990 and was revived in 2022.
