Hello friends! TIFF is over and now I’m excited to check out some new shows – this next week (Sep. 19 – 25, 2024) will see the premieres of Agatha All Along, The Penguin and the second season of The Traitors Canada.

Agatha All Along

A spin-off from WandaVision, Marvel Television’s Agatha All Along premieres this Wednesday, September 18 on Disney+ in Canada. Kathryn Hahn’s infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself powerless after a suspicious goth teen breaks her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards witches with what they need.

The series also stars Joe Locke (Heartstopper), Sasheer Zamata (Saturday Night Live), Paul Adelstein (Private Practice), Debra Jo Rupp (That ‘70s Show), Patti LuPone (Life Goes On), and Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation). The first two episodes premiere on Sep. 18, with a new episode dropping each Wednesday.

The Rebuild: Inside the Montreal Canadiens

Crave brings us a rare inside look at the Montreal Canadiens’ 2023-2024 season as they set out to re-establish themselves as an NHL powerhouse. The docuseries will feature interviews with some of the team’s top players, including Nick Suzuki, Cole Caulfield, Mike Matheson, and Juraj Slafkovsky.

Habs fan and former Hockey Night in Canada host George Stroumboulopoulos narrates the English version of the 8-episode series. The Rebuild: Inside the Montreal Canadiens premieres with 2 episodes on Wednesday, Sep. 18, with a new episode streaming each Wednesday.

The Penguin

A continuation from Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, HBO Max’s The Penguin centres on Colin Farrell’s(Sugar) character, Oz Cobb, and explores his rise to power in Gotham City’s criminal underworld a week after the events of the film.

The Penguin also stars Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother), Rhenzy Feliz (Runaways), Mark Strong (replacing John Turturro), Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Shohreh Aghdashloo (24), and Scott Cohen (Gilmore Girls). In Canada, The Penguin will stream Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Crave beginning Sep. 19.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story

Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez story premieres this Thursday, Sep. 19 on Netflix and stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital), Cooper Koch (Power Book II: Ghost), Javier Bardem (Dune), and Chloë Sevigny (Big Love).

The series chronicles the case of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents.

Frasier

The second season of Paramount+’s Frasier continuation premieres this Thursday, Sep. 19 and will see Kelsey Grammer’s character returning to his radio roots at KACL in Seattle for an episode.

The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal

Prime Video debuts The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal this Friday, Sep. 20 following the docuseries’ premiere at TIFF earlier this month. Mike Downie assembles The Tragically Hip for an emotional look at the band’s origin, impact, and legacy.
