Janine Holmes, a 44-year-old hair and make-up artist from Toronto, was the first houseguest to be evicted on Big Brother Canada’s twelfth season. Janine chats with The TV Watercooler and who she thinks will break out of the herd mentality first, if the female alliance is DOA, and the cockiest houseguest this season.
When you all first entered the house, the original plan was for the “first 12” to stick together, but then Anthony won HOH. Do you think that’s gone out of the window now?
As soon as we learned about the entourages, I was like, “Oh, the ‘Original 12’ is done. The All-Stars have safety. We can’t touch them!”
Do you think the non-All-Star houseguests can band together now and revert to the original plan now that Anthony and Victoria are no longer safe?
Oh, they’re the biggest targets in the house! Those are the biggest moves of the season. Whoever gets Anthony and Spice Vee out, will be amazing on their resume.
Who do you think will be the first one to break out of the herd mentality?
The first to break out will be Bayleigh! Bayleigh is gunning for Anthony. She is thirsty for it and I really hope she does it.
Is there someone that you already miss from the house?
Weirdly enough, I miss them all! I do miss them. It’s so crazy what happens in that house. There’s so much time in the day, there are no distractions, and you just get to know these people.
Even in one of my breakdowns, I remember saying, “You guys are my best friends.” Like how is this possible? “I love you all.”
I barely even tell my husband I love him this much! It’s just so bizarre what happens when you’re in this pressure cooker and you have no distractions. It’s really magical and beautiful. I’m so grateful that I got this opportunity because there’s nothing like it in this world.
‘Big Sisters’ failed in week one. Do you think this alliance stands a chance at all or is it already dead?
I’m hoping that there is a chance. Leaving the house, I wasn’t going to blow up anyone’s game. I could have blown up Spicy Vee’s game, no problem. But I decided not to.
I really want a female to take the win. There’s only been three in all the full ten seasons of Big Brother Canada. We don’t always need to be pitted against one another. So, if a female comes out on top, I feel like I’ve done my part.
Do you think there’s a lot of cockiness with the guys? Especially on the Canadian version?
100%! Especially with Tola. That guy is 100% ego.
He’s just one of those who I would have targeted. I just did not vibe with him.
A funny story is when we did that “Down the Rabbit Hole” challenge, he thought he had that in the bag, but it was essentially down to Dinis and I. We had a great strategy and we both thought the same. Dinis is an artist. I’m an artist. We just have that kind of mindset. At one point, Tola looked over at us and saw how close we were to the end, and it was very humbling to him, to the point that once that challenge was over, he added pieces to his board so when Canada would see his board, he made it look like he was further along in the game.
I was so excited when I saw that! I was like, “Oooh! The Ego King has been knocked down a peg.” I loved it. It was such a great moment for me. I was like, “There you go.” It’s not all about being speedy and being the best in everything in this game.
What was your favourite memory from your time in the Big Brother Canada house?
Just being in the house and the theme! I felt like it really spoke to me. I had a sweater that had stars on it and I was like, “I am meant to be here.” And just having the ‘Walk of Fame’ of all the past houseguests that have won, was magical!
This was my season. I was meant to be on this season as short-lived as it was. I got to live out a dream. I was supposed to be in that house!
