The TV Watercooler

Ringer, Happy Endings, SNL and more

— I can’t stop watching this preview for Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Ringer.

— You have no idea how many DUI reports I come across on TMZ on a daily basis. Usually, I check out the mug shot and then I’m done. Luckily, I actually read Estella Warren’s report and what the hell, this girl managed to ESCAPE? Just awesome.

Christopher Meloni won’t be returning to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

— Next time my flight is delayed by like eight hours, I hope Adam Pally on is board. The Happy Endings star was stuck on a plane with Tim Robbins and managed to tweet about it. The best part: Tim telling him “Don’t f*** actresses, they end up f***ing you.” And then Adam responding “What about Susan Sarandon should I f*** her?” The season finale of Happy Endings airs tonight following the finales of Modern Family and Cougar Town (full hour in Hawaii).

— So The Billboard Music Awards are attempting to stage a comeback. Did you watch? I was too busy living the high life this long weekend in a random trip to Niagara Falls and didn’t even bother to set my TiVo. Luckily, I didn’t miss much since the kiss between Britney Spears and Rihanna didn’t even make it to air (if this special was still on Fox, we’d have seen it). Also, apparently Rihanna sang her heart out while Britney lip-synched. Surprise, surprise.

— A bit disappointed to learn that Showtime has cancelled United States of Tara. Meanwhile, Nurse Jackie has been renewed. Diablo Cody spoke to Vulture about the cancellation (“I don’t think I’ve processed the news fully yet. It could have been more sensational, maybe. It should have been more like Gigolos.”).

— VH1 is bringing back Pop Up Video!

The Hangover Part II hits theatres tomorrow (with special screenings tonight at 10 p.m. and midnight). Kat got a chance to interview Bradley Cooper, check it out here. I also got to put together a gallery where Crystal (the monkey) made her red carpet debut. Yes, that’s a monkey in a dress. You better check that out here.

Glee ended its second season last night and it wasn’t all that great. With three writers who have a proven track record, I don’t understand why this show can no longer be as great as it was during the first half of its first season. Did they really think we’d believe Rachel getting duped and by 13 tickets to Cats and not knowing it hasn’t been on Broadway in years? Or that they arrive in New York with no song/dance prepared? Or they wouldn’t even make it in the Top 10? I could go on… I guess I’ll be watching 90210 at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays this fall – at least they’ve got a new showrunner.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder took their mothers to Paris. Are they “official” yet?

— On the latest edition of the TV Casualty Podcast, Kat and I discuss the season finales of Parks and Recreation, The Office and How I Met Your Mother. Check it out here.

— The Justin Timberlake/Lady Gaga season finale of Saturday Night Live this past weekend was pretty great. Loved the special appearances by Bradley Cooper, Jimmy Fallon, Susan Sarandon and Patricia Clarkson. I’m willing to forgive the mostly “off” season.
