Gillespie’s (I, Tonya) take on the 2021 GameStop Wall Street scandal which pitted hedge fund billionaires against an amateur online investor.

As Americans continued to deal with political upheaval and COVID, a bunch of traders on Reddit began buying GameStop (yes, the video game store) stock to beat traditional investors out of money.

There were plenty of themes (the pandemic, grief, economic hardship) that could have made this movie depressing, but we’ve got a fun finance movie from Gillespie. Dumb Money perfectly captured the Internet culture and recreated the viral memes from the scandal.

Watch This If: You’re a fan of The Big Short, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Social Network.

★★★★

Dumb Money hits theatres on September 22, 2023.
